steering wobble
Discussion
Hi all first time post in here,
I,ve just found myself in a little shogun pinin swb van, great little thing FSH from new and very tidy, only problem i have is when it gets to 60mph the steering gets quite a wobble on, both front tyres had been off the day before i bought it for a job for MOT, could putting them on the opposite way to which they came off cause this or is it possibly something more sinister? its running on BF Goodrich A/T tyres
Do these offroad tyres need balancing the same as normal car tyres as i,m hoping thats whats causing it, to be fair the garage said bring it back and we will sort it no problem at all but if its something simple i,d rather save the 100 mile round trip and get it sorted myself

Quick one to add - check the insides of the wheels to make sure they are totally free from any stuck on mud or detritis. It doesn't take much for a bit of mud to majorly upset the wheel's balance.
Same goes for the tyre's tread itself - if there's some mud stuck in the tread on one bit of the tyre, same result.
Sometimes when I go off-roading, at the point where I join a road again my Jeep gets a steering wobble bordering on a fairground ride because of a lump of mud stuck inside a wheel rim!

Does this wobble only occur at 40 or does it hang around at higher speeds? There are a lot of things that COULD be wrong, but some of the more common is alignment being off, tires not being correctly balanced (depending on the location of the wobble, if you feel it in the steering wheel then it is your front tires) or you might have some worn suspension parts (Tie rods, ball joints, a few other random parts).

Well got the wheels balanced and its 90% gone, tyre fitter reckoned one of the wheels has a slight dint in it so that would account for the slight wobble thats left when you get to 70+ (which i dont do in this little thing)
It is a fun little thing though, goes places it shouldnt really for its size, i did want to lift it a bit but apparently it cant be done
