Picked this one up when a vicious lump of demolition rubble jumped out of the sand and attacked the sill.

I'd like to straighten it (before adding some rails to protect the XJ's tinfoil underbelly) if possible. Don't care about making it 'invisible' or anything, just roughly straight.

Ideally, I'd like to avoid taking any paint off so screwing in and pulling or tac welding isn't going to work. It is a later car with the galvanised body.

Any ideas specific to the Cherokee? I'm wondering if there's any way to get behind the outer sill and push it back out again.

cut out the full length of the outer sill both sides & weld in box section & paint. Means you dont need sill rails for protection. Doubt you will repair that dint without further damage to paint

If you do manage to straighten it without taking the paint off what is left will probably flake off at some point anyway.....
Cut a patch out of the inner, bash straight, weld in oversize patch on inner then paint.

Cheers for the input.

I'm gonna just get any loose paint off and spray it for now and look in to replacing the outer sill with box section at a later date. I'm afraid I can't weld, and I don't plan to learn by attaching thick box section to the thin floor and blowing holes in it!

There's quite a few posts around from people that have done this... much easier to find info once I worked out that out 'merkin friends call them 'rocker panels'
