Defender. Still the best on road and the most durable long term. Will also be worth a heck of a lot more when you come to sell it.

There's nothing wrong with the transit engine.

Use my 2011 Hilux in woodlands/forests daily, other than putting some more aggressive tyres on, nothing has been changed and it happily handles some rough tracks and drags quite heavily loaded trailers around with no problems. On road it is very comfortable and can cruise at speed happily, mpg isn't that bad either. On my sixth Hilux now and can't recommend them enough, great things.

Choose the Hilux, the Isuzu is also a decent pickup and cheaper but doesn`t hold its price as well and few dealerships.

Thanks for all your input I've bought a Hilux I did look at the Dmax good tow capacity and warrenty was intresting but they dont look as strong as the toyota for instance things like drive shafts and suspension parts look lighter and some of the trim is a little cheap , Ive had a few toyotas in the past and got on well with them and had little trouble and good resale , plus in parts of the world that a having a relible vehicle is litraly a matter of life or death you will find a toyota is the car of choice so got to
be good enough for rural cheshire!!!..

On your sixth? You must drive them pretty hard...we've found them pretty indestructible.

Only ever killed one, the draught from the lorry I was overtaking lifted the totally empty rear end off the road and nothing I could do, not that I knew what happened, it was the one time I was over the moon to have a traffic cop following me.

The other ones I've sold when I didn't need them for work anymore or the need for speed got to much rolleyes

No not had a petrol option since about 1993!! the market for petrol comercials and pick ups is tiny in the uk but maybe things will change as emission regs tighten and diesels get more expensive ,complicated and less ecomnomical??

Another reason not to head back then.

The guy who has my old '97 Surf is swapping the 3.0TD for a 1UZ. Should give more power and better economy.
