i'm looking to buy a y61 nissan patrol. i know i want the 4.8l and have been told that in my region the super safari will have all the toys including diff locker.

just wondering what the differences are between model years for trim and mechanical revisions and what to look out for when buying. i'm told the cooling system can be rubbish and that weeping axle seals are also an issue.

i've always thought to patrol to be rather unkillable which appeals having spent a small fortune on the wrangler recently. purpose will be daily drive/tow/adventure camping [desert and mountain]. would like to fit a mild lift and bigger tyres so any issues there?

My self and a friend have both picked up 3.0td each. They will be pretty much identical except for a few things. So far we have fitted.

Old Man Emu medium duty suspension. Lifts it 30mm at the rear and 20mm at the front. Nothing major lift wise, but from what we have read the best of the best of all the makes.

Safari snorkel. Not the cheap Chinese ones the proper job ones. Heard about fitment issues with the cheaper ones.

BFG KM2 MT 33" tyres. We were umming and arring about these tyres but a friend at a local tyre garage did us a deal of £700 for 5 with fitment etc.

The only difference we have is I've just bought a winch tray that fits the standard bumper. Its out of the way hidden behind the front number plate.

We will be mostly using these for overlanding. Trip down to Morocco next year. But also some green laning and maybe an offroad park or two.

sounds good, any pics? old man emu would be my choice of lift too, they have a very good reputation.

i want to end up looking similar to this but not on such big tyres and with a steel bumper.

.

snorkel isn't needed in the desert although i too fancy some overlanding, i could get to cape town by road if i had the time to!

also i have learned from experience that big chunky tyres are great fr the sand, crap everywhere else.

I will post up some pictures later on.

I'm still waiting for the suspension, snorkal and winch tray. The first two were ordered from devon4x4. The winch tray is coming from Oz.

This weekend i'm getting under mine with a wirebrush and angle grinder. The thing to watch out for is the deadly rust. The patrols seem to suffer alot in the UK climate with road salting etc. The bodies on both of our patrols are good. The chassis's tho....
