Is this really at the request of green laners?

Well, from what I gather the national park folks closed it 'illegally' and it was challenged as it wasn't put through the correct channels, (I'm not up on the actual details). So the irony is that the pressure put on green laners with these closures has resulted in the folks wondering why, as the rocky nature of the road was what attracted green laners in the first place... So, green laners cannot win either way.

crux of the issue for me is can anyone vouch it was LARA who insisted the work go ahead or is that information incorrect?

Sorry, I was thinking of Chapel Gate, rather than Stanage. Have you. Gone to LARA to find out?

Doubtful that LARA was behind this, unless somebody has misinterpreted their words.

I would hazard a guess the ramblers are responsible they have been complaining about it for years.
