Hi
Looking to buy a pick-up spend is up to 6K. A quick browse on t'internet says they are either very good or a money pit! Anyone have a balanced view? I don't expect a 7 ish year old car to be perfect but don't fancy having to shell out for a new engine?
Thanks

The L200 are ok - a little short geared in first/second.
A bit bouncy.
Benefits are choice - there are loads to choose from with lots of different specs, so dont buy the first one.
They are pretty decent off road for a truck.
I would look at a Toyota at that price range if possible

Please note they are not car like though in any way!

Short gearing is good if you want to tow. I've got a Ford Ranger, and 1st and 2nd are too tall in 2wd/4wd high to tow. I'd agree about not being car like, unfortunately.

Crack cyl heads, pulleys and gearbox issues to look out for.

if your buying a pick-up, than get one from the states.

The yanks have been building them longer than anyone else and nobody does it better. (yes I include Toyota in that statement)

i will let my mate know, he has a ford pick-up thing, which drinks petrol and trashes tyres in between visits to his mechanic who has paid off his mortgage since my mate bought it smile

We have two L200s as company runabouts. Pre-Animal era, both bought from new with a good few years age gap between them. They just keep running and running. Lovely workhorses. Only issues we’ve seen over the years were an exhaust mount rusting through, a power steering failure, and the occasional dead battery if left undriven for too long.
