As above, looking for a cheap 4X4 for moving trailers & stuff around the field.

I have no experience of 4X4's so looking for advice on what to look for. No tax/MOT needed so cheap as possible, £500-1000. Must have a the guts to pull a loaded trailer.

I'm wondering if it's worth spending a bit extra and getting a cheap Land Rover?

Get an old Discovery or RR, They'll pull anything and prices are cheap for MOT failures which will normally be rust.

This... plenty of rust buckets about with solid mechanicals and chassis

Tell me, I've had one sitting in my field for five years, it still starts on half a crank of the engine even if left over the winter.

A Landy that's scabby but running will always be worth £500-1000 so you can change it every year for no cost wink

Actually, I just bought bought an ex army 110 2.5 petrol with 10 months mot for £750 and it's not bad!

Scabby and basic for sure but good chassis, boxes and engine. She'll pull 3.5 tonnes no problem at all.

Diahatsu Fourtrack or SportTrack.

a MOT failure Land Rover will still cost you £600-£800.

Just got back from viewing a Landie I found on e-bay! An '85 Defender 90 2.5 turbo diesel. Six months tax & MOT, chassis & outriggers all sound, floors a bit grotty but pretty sound. Gearbox selection is a bit vague but it worked in high & low ratios in all gears. Will be fine for what I need it for.

They're an interesting drive that's for sure lol. Gonna get it picked up as there's no way I'm driving it 40 miles!

Got it for £1250 so even if it breaks I won't lose to much money.

Actually I think it's a 110,

Only pics I have of it from the e-bay ad.

My mate's picking it up with his breakdown lorry so will be with me either today or Monday!

Looks great. The gearbox selection is pretty vague at best of times. We had our gearbox rebuilt 2 years ago and
still feels as sloppy as it always did.

Yep, a lovely old 110.

Adjustable tow bar and bonnet-mount wheel, awesome!

Maybe just HD springs on the back, quite common on pickups I think. fking hard when unladen.

Bugger me, just noticed it's on a c-plate, must be a very early one-ten? Thought they only started in 86D?
