Ford Maverick which is, I believe, the same as the Mazda Tribute.
Depends which age you are looking at. The earlier Ford Maverick is the same as a Nissan Terrano. Ladder chassis, live rear axle. Quite a rugged little 4x4 available in LWB and SWB.The latter Maverick (Ford Escape in the US) is also sold as the Mazda Tribute. This is much more of a Freelander style soft roader. My brothers partner has one.
Not a bad vehicle overall, I don't think they have any single vice, just check general condition. There is no diesel model though and the V6 can be a bit juicy.
I have a 2000 terrano. Same as the maverick more or less. It's a 2.7td lwb 7 seat. It's been great value for money. Had nearly 5 years of trouble free caravan pulling and mud plugging. It's never failed mot and the only part replaced was a battery.
Look for rust around rear arches, around door pillars and in general underneath. Turn the steering full lock each way and drive in a circle listening. Any knocks or bangs walk away.
To drive its harsh, bumpy and a little tractor like. That said its rugged, capable and a really good all round tool. Mechanics are bomb proof and service parts cheap. Expect around 27mpg from the diesel as an average.
