Thinking of getting one for app 10k, so what they like to live with and a silly question but are they all 4 wheel drive cause I don`t want to end up with 2 wd.
What do you want it for? As in what type of use?I don't think they are a bad truck, but you do hear about certain things going wrong with them.
Remember they are truck, so will drive, handle and feel like one. If you don't want a truck, don't look at these! I know it sounds obvious, but many people seem to fall into this trap.
I'm no expert on these, so might be wrong, but I believe they have no centre differential. This means in normal road use they are RWD only. With selectable 4wd. But having no centre diff means you can only use 4wd on lose or slippery surfaces, not on dry grippy tarmac.

Buy a Hilux the Nissans do have a tendency to go bang. If it was me would also take a gander at the VW now thats sexy
Sexy????I think it depends what they want to do with it tbh. Personally a Defender will easily beat any of the Jap trucks off road and is usually more heavy duty. It'll also retain it's value far better, so offering up a lower total cost of ownership.
Either that or maybe consider a US truck, much much much better spec than any of the Jap offerings in the UK. And again far stronger residuals.

Only true of the later post 2002 face lift Navara. If you get a pre 2001 model with the 'recessed' head lights (you'll know what I mean when you see one) then you get the TD25 engine not the YD25 engine. The TD is a bit of a tractor lump, but goes well enough and is pretty much bullet proof.
Mine was approaching the 120k mile mark before I put it on it roof on the M4 (not my fault ) Other than that I'd still have it.
Only the older D22 models had engine blowing issues. for £10k I presume you'd be looking at D40's? Can also forget VW Amaroks for 10k ;-). We've run 2 D40 Navaras from new in 06, both still going strong. Of all the pick-ups it's the most car-like to drive, drove it to Athens and back fully loaded no probs. Known issues - main one is the clutch/dual mass flywheel. Try and get one that's had it done, or it will need it. Mine's gone in today for it at a specialist, looking at aboout £600 for replacing both (mine's done £125k). Other issues were the halfshafts which were a recall item, and the original alloy wheels, also replaced under recall. Mine needed a new transfer box under warranty at 3 years old, and last year needed a front wheel bearing. I'd have another tomorrow, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a pick-up.
Watching with interest - unfortunately my 'what big 4x4' purchase was put on hold due to a house sale falling through, so now budget is reduced, and pickups the preferred option due to increasing numbers of dogs.
Big question (having just ruled out a D23 Navara and old-shape L200) - will a rear facing baby seat fit in the rear and still allow room for a six footer in the front seat to sit in comfort? And do all D40s have Isofix, or do I need to hunt that out specifically? Personally I've never really liked the D40 as they were always a bit bling for my liking, but if I can transport my daughter in safety, then it's a small price to pay (I can always cover it in mud as a disguise).
Unfortunately a Hilux is off the menu as it is impossible to find one in budget that doesn't use a rubber band as an engine (103bhp), and I suspect the ones in budget will suffer from the same lack of space in the back as all their contempories.

Are you seriously saying after the catalog of repairs, you would have another?
NO way -------------
Just buy a HiLux, or a Land Cruiser.
Mine is on 250,000 miles, with the alternator replaced at 220,000 miles.
That's the Nissan v Toyota thread closed then.
