Jeep Diesel MPG
Discussion
Mrs R1 has a GC 4.7v8 which likes a drink. Usually the OBC says 19mpg round town but it will do 22-23mpg at 70 on the motorway.
Can anyone tell me what the Grand Cherokee 2.7, 3.0 crd and the Cherokee 2.5 and 2.8 crds are likely to return?
She loves the car but we are facing an imminent loss of fuel card!

My 2004 2.7 CRD is returning me around 25 to 26 mpg on my "average" journey which is alot of rush hour stop/start and around town.
Ive seen a steady 36.5mpg at 65mph on the motorways using the cruise control. I guess 70 would knock that down slightly.
All via the OBC.
I can vouch for this.Ive seen a steady 36.5mpg at 65mph on the motorways using the cruise control. I guess 70 would knock that down slightly.

A friend at work has an 2006 and quotes the same figures on the same style of driving. He only lives 3.5 miles away from work hence the low mpg

Thanks that is really useful to know.
In terms of range per tank on your typical mirage then i guess you see arround 350miles per tank?
In all honesty I dont really know, £50 is about 1/2 a tank of diesel and I only really look at the average mpg figure, not the tank range. In terms of range per tank on your typical mirage then i guess you see arround 350miles per tank?
I will say that Im very easy going when I drive the jeep. I dont boot it off from the lights, would get a sports car if thats what I wanted to do !
Thanks - I know the xj's were never really that economical.
I am interested in the LPG tho' what would you say that it costs to run in terms of fuel gas/petrol?
TBH the grand is a great car and we have done 30k in it, it owes us nothing and it would be good for another 30k.
The reality is though that 30k is almost £9.5k in fuel and that's fine when you have a petrol card and only pay the tax (i.e. 40%) but not when it's your own money!

We bought the jeep with the gas fitted this was my intention as I paid about £1000 more than the equivalent model without the gas conversion and as it’s about £2000 to have the conversion done. So we have not really run on petrol apart from starting the car to really compare the costs. But as I’ve been told and I think there is a thread on here saying that you get slightly less mpg on gas than petrol. The saving is we are paying 66p per litre for gas about half the cost of petrol

When I did some research into LPG costs etc, there are some that say you get upto 20% less fuel economy... but with lpg being nearly half the price of petrol its still good around 30% cheaper I thinkNo info on the 2.5 or 2.8, but to reinforce the details regarding the 2.7, I manage the following:
Average mpg = 29-30 with a 6 mile commute each way daily (combination of back roads and town driving)
Motorway = 37-38
Average tank range = 440
Best seen from a tank was 550 after a bit of urban followed by a long haul, although this was...
a) Playing fuel light bingo
b) Listening to the wife panicking
c) Starting to believe I had actually overdone it

Back from the neige.
The GC was awesome on standard rubber in low range.
Went everywhere, one morning had seven kids and all skis on the roof down to the ski school through 30/45 cm of snow over ice.
Averaged 28.9 mpg on the way back at 2500 rpm equating to 75 mph four up full with luggage and ski box on the roof.
Felt fresh as a daisy after fifteen hours driving.

My GC V8 is on LPG. When you convert the prices over to the price of diesel, it's the equivalent of 27MPG tank to tank. That's 20% back road/fields, 30% city driving with heavy traffic and 50% motorway. And I'm usually in a rush somewhere.
Worth looking at your annual mileage and seeing if it's worthwhile.

I wish I had kept my '02 Overland 2.7CRD Mpg was around 27-28 avg
But I bloody upgraded to a '57 Overland 3.0CRD Mpg is now around 22-23 avg Crap!! Towing at 60 with a horse took it down to 16mpg WTF!!
Really disappointed and will be selling now... Wifey suggested a Defender and I cannot argue with that....
Shopping time!!
