Just put a set of 195/60x15 General Altimax Winter tyres on my son's 1.2 Corsa, wow I just can't belive how well they perform, daughters is on Hankook winters on her Corsa and they work well too.
100% convert to winter tyres, it still won't stop you having someons slide into you though and does not get you out of traffic ques, but as time goes on I think many will open their eyes to winter tyres.

You mean these super dooper Land Cruisers need special tyres for snow?
fk it, the Defender's fine on it's XZLs.
I suppose the standard boulevard cruiser tyres are too wide for the snow...fk it, the Defender's fine on it's XZLs.
I dropped the bowler's tyre pressure from 35psi to 28psi and also had no bother.

I have Defenders and Disco's to drive anytime and I know what I would chose to drive on in these conditions, would add XZL's in snow would not be my first choice as any MT tyres is not as good as an AT in snow.

You just need to try them...........I would see both your defenders disapear in the mirror.

With only sufficient room for one set of tyres (i.e. on the vehicle) I find that the KL71s are exceptional all rounders whether that be the heavy prolonged snow of a few years back, commuting or laning.I have Defenders and Disco's to drive anytime and I know what I would chose to drive on in these conditions, would add XZL's in snow would not be my first choice as any MT tyres is not as good as an AT in snow.
I'd take the Bowler over a factory 4x4 for use in snowy conditions every time too - better occupant protection, less mass to control and significantly cheaper to repair if things do go wrong.
Nice .. I must admit im a convert, and if I still have my trusty 406 shed next winter, I shall be fitting a set to her.
Ive spent most of this week being ferried around southern Finland in all sorts of Taxi's, from Prius Hybrids to XC90's, all running winter tires, and I have to say, these Fins know how to drive in the snow !....
Even the taxi driver last night who took me back to my hotel in the E class Merc was showing off the "Scandinavian flick" as we exited roundabouts at speeds I would only do in the dry!!!.. Chatting to him, he couldn't believe that in the UK the kind of depth of snow that fell yesterday (around 6cm) would be sufficient to bring southern England to a standstill

I am not surprised they are good at driving in snow - it happens every winter.Ive spent most of this week being ferried around southern Finland in all sorts of Taxi's, from Prius Hybrids to XC90's, all running winter tires, and I have to say, these Fins know how to drive in the snow !....

VAT on tyres (originally a "luxury goods tax") and other safety-related car components makes the average UK resident think twice about two sets of tyres.
I wont argue against the technology of the winter tyre.
Only down here in the sarf' of England Ive never lost a day of work because of the weather yet.
The cost of a set of tyres verses the benefit's just dont work out. If we had more severve weather on a regular basis then the case would be proven.

I agree with the above...hence Ford Focus for normal use and Bowler for fun and when it snows. There is an additional benefit of using the 4x4 over a car on winter tyres - the 4x4 copes better with deeper snow and will survive low-speed impacts better than a car which will cost more to repair and likely require recovery.Only down here in the sarf' of England Ive never lost a day of work because of the weather yet.

Ha ha, you can 4X4 all you want, Landrovers, Pathfinders ..... I put these .....
I bet I'd show you 4X4ers something ........
Very cool! I bet I'd show you 4X4ers something ........
Of course, to show up a LR you would have to head into the tree line off-road through stuff a lot deeper than that to impress!

Landrover, Spamrover ..........Of course, to show up a LR you would have to head into the tree line off-road through stuff a lot deeper than that to impress!
I put these tyres .......
On to this 2x4 ....
And drove over 800 miles here .....
On the first night, this happend ....
I then drover over 400 miles on roads like these .....
So these tyres ......
.... made my 2x4 better than pretty much anything else that was driving on these roads, including a lot of 4x4 on summer tyres ....... duuuu, summer tyres ......
Sorry boys, you 4x4ers really will have to, "up your game", to teach me about traction .....
All in good taste boys ..........

You do realise that a 4x4 on winters will trounce it? Yes, a 2wd on winters will on the whole be better than a 4x4 on summers. However, if you are going to shod your vehicle correctly, at least give the same respect to those that do the same.
Almost 64000 posts ......... respect .....All in good fun, I used to off-road, but times move on and I moved to sports cars and family cars, I fully realise that a 4x4 with the same tyres would have more traction, I'm just proving how damned good these winter tyres are ..........
I am truly a convert
Also shod both the kids to Winters on their 1.2 Corsa's, my son could not get his head round the fact that he was driving round 4x4's on standard tyres.
My whole family are converts to winter tyres but I suppose it's quite easy for me.
Been testing a set of 285/50x20 Dunlop SJ6 Winters on my new V8 cruiser which are a great tyre.
More and more customers are switching to winters........but will not stop someone else sliding into you or getting stuck in traffic, you can of couse then tackle the untreated side roads with confidence and a great lot of fun if you want.
Have to say the Vredestein winter tyres are fantastic and are not to heavy on price, massive following with quite a few running the Wintrac 4 Xtreme on their 4x4's all year round with some getting massive mileage out of them.
Always best to change back to summers if you can.
As they say "I would rather be on winter tyres in the summer than summer tyres in the winter"
