I was doing a Google search the other day and accidentially came across this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kaqg_sfrOAA and further looking found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCHHoE9C-PM. I was then down the maintained part of that Byway and found that its now got a temporary closure on it http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/cou... (its Crowborough Byway 30 b and c.

I have known of its existence for over 30 years from when I was a child. Way back then it was never driven on, but was probably in good enough condition to be driven on by a 2 wheel drive car. More recently whats happened is that due to poor maintenance of ditches and I believe the addition of land drains draining on to it from neighbouring properties its suffered erosion which can be seen on the you tube video from the motorbike.

I believe that there have recently been a number of 4x4s passing through it which have made it next to impassable, not sure if its bad driving bad decision making or what. But it does show what happens if Byways do get damaged.

I have never driven on a Byway, not got the right the 4x4 but support others rights to do so, but do believe common sense has to be shown to avoid what I assume were complaints which lead to this closure.

Driving alane that is that badly damaged already is just bad all round, in my mind, driving byways and ucr's isn;t about driving 'offraod', thats why i go to sites to do so, driving byways etc is about going to and seeing things that i would otherwise not........!
