hi guys
my old pajero is up for renewal and i,m looking at an isuzu dmax or rodeo 3.0 td any one on here know what their common faults are an what to look for when buying someone elses cast offs
Hi. Working for an Isuzu dealer at the moment and have done a fair bit of work on the rodeos and pdi's on the new D Maxs. There doesn't seem to be many significant problems with the them but issues such as tow bar wiring , the odd clutch and they seem to be rather heavy on front anti roll bar bushes and rear spring eye bushes. The new dmaxs are too new to tell but there is an unofficial problem with the fuel filters but they are a diddle to change now they have been moved from underneath the chassis to the engine bay. Be aware of how the canopy/cover etc has been fitted and the wiring sealed as they are routed (depending on which canopy fitted ) underneath the chassis and then through into the truck itself. The new engine also has more grunt but in 6th gear you really need to be doing 65-70 for it to be worthwhile using.around 28-30 mpg is what I'd hope for taking it easyish . my old pajero is up for renewal and i,m looking at an isuzu dmax or rodeo 3.0 td any one on here know what their common faults are an what to look for when buying someone elses cast offs
Servicing on the rodeos is every 12000 miles and the major service is 24000 which includes all diff oils , transmission oils and transfer box, brake fluid change and the usual oil and filter. Plus other top ups and check overs. Fuel filters are not changed unless a lot of water or the light is on. Service is about 4 hours to do - so fairly expensive I'd imagine.
They seem to be fairly decent on road and off road have a strong towing capacity and not a bad interior to boot. One important thing to remember is that the price of parts if you don't have a warranty can be rather eye watering .
Hope this helps you somewhat . If you got anything else , feel free to ask !
