Anyone a member of their local 4x4 response team?
Discussion
I used to belong to one, when I had more time, and a capable 4x4.
It was a great society to belong to, did many trips for doctors/nurses to hospital, when the roads werent allowing it, also pulled a vehicle of two with batternburgs out of situations, and helped an ambulance to navigate a farm track to an elderly lady in the snow.
Your time is unpaid, but thats not what its about, its about helping others, fuel was always covered which was very nice.
Expect your vehicle to be gone over first, they will want to make sure all your docs and car are legit, and also check your recovery proceedures, and any kit on your vehicle, i.e. winchs you may have are fully servicable

I am heading over to the monthly meet for my local response teams and getting advice from them to see what is what. Register on the national forum http://www.4x4response.info/index.php and see where you local one is and find out where they meet (most groups meet monthly)
Have to admit, I did think about doing something similar, but not for me, mainly due to the personalities involved. For instance, saw a Discovery the other day which was all stickered up with light bars on the roof, and thought is all that really, really necessary? Probably not. Undoubtedly admirable to help folk out, but don't make a song and dance about it.

Ditto. At a large event somewhere between London and Brighton last year there were legions of tatty Disco 1s, smothered in reflective tape, weighed down by lights bars, with one shed bearing the legend "Emergency Response Vehicle" in very tall, very visible letters on virtually every flat surface.Hampshire Plod have now set up their own slightly more discreet network for volunteers.

In my area, some of the local traffic & beat guys know me & have my mobile number. If they're having problems, they give me a call direct.
