I have just purchased mitsubishi pajero, one of the things it came with was a kit which allowed you to diconnect the ecr valve, the guy had not got around to fitting it before selling the vehicle.
The kit comes with all the blanking plates, and looks a easy job, is it worth doing?.

I take it you mean 'EGR' Valve - Exhaust gas recirculation if so.

It works on the idea of lowering emissions by mixing some of the exhaust gas back into the intake air charge, so the overall percentage of harmful emissions goes down because some of them will be burnt off second time. I think.

I am, however, quite sure that it costs you some power having the valve fitted, as your intake air is going to have a certian amount of exhaust gas in it that won't burn as efficiently.
So by all means blank it off only reason it is there is to make emissions regulations easier to meet. The car as sold new in a dealership must meet these regulations, but there's nothing to stop the manufacturer themselves offering upgrades that would then make the car not meet the regulations

No it wont affect the mot in a negative way !!! if the EGR sticks open there will be more smoke less power and higher fuel comsumsion, it should improve driverbillity and fuel cons with it blanked off .

cheers for that info, looks a well made bit of kit , with full fitting instructions. The only thing it didn't tell you is what it does, don't no why he didn't fit it himself after ordering it.

still a bit worried about fitting this kit, as i have asked around and have been told on some models it can cause the engine to go on to limp home mode, or does it only apply to newer models.
Many thanks for any help.

How old is your paj? Blanking off the egr valve is only worth doing if its smoking a lot as this can cure it. The other thing is it will increase engine temps and the 4m40 I.e. the 2.8 is prone to this.
