Bunch of stuff done today... Bits4vits 1.5 inch spacer set. (gave 2" lift), 1" diff drop brackets, new backbox, custom bumper, and new custom transfer case bracket, (made by RockWatt from difflock).

Just the Bits4Vits spacer kit. It now has the same ground clearance as my bro's SJ, so until we start hitting more stuff, it will stay as is. It is easy enough to get another 1.5" by throwing on some later model GV springs, and Astra shocks, that will take it to 3". tuco22
The transfer case bracket was, IMHO, the most important bit, as I can just plate the underside to protect the transfer case, and have no worries if I do ground on a hump, or the edge of a slope.

Haven't had any issues mechanically thus far, and that is with taking it over some pretty rough ground. MPG is what you would expect of this sort of car. Comfy enough, but can be a bit noisy at times. You get used to that though. Brakes are decent, but steering is vague. The 4wd system, with decent tyres, is excellent. The only time I ever got stuck was when a big ice puddle broke underneath me, and as I had my winter tyres, could not get the bite to get out again. Not the prettiest cars by a long way. The 2nd gen have a bit more ground clarence of memory serves, but they look a bit rounded for my taste.
As a winter hack, I reckon you could do a lot worse. I use mine in the winters here, and never have starting issues, etc. Simple engines, cheap parts. The only gripe I have is they look cross eyed.
Decent room in the back for adults, and the seats fold completely forward, so you could throw dogs, shopping, or the mother-in-law in the back as well.
