Thanks for reminding me why P&P sites are best avoided.

Why ? Honest question. This kind of stuff could happen anywhere.

True, it could happen anywhere, but all of the clips on YooToob of P&P sites show camouflage-clad yokels who say "by 'eck" alot thrashing the tits off something they picked up off eBay for £250 with the sole intention of destroying it in a disused quarry somewhere while videoing it to show their mates t'Woolpack.
Those pillocks in the drowning Discovery are just another example.

One of the reasons I've come away from offroading full stop. Too many UK rednecks appearing. Don't get me wrong, I had some great times, and met some good friends through it, but things definitely changed over the last 2 years. It was definitely an itch I needed to scratch with the Unimog, but I've done that, now scratching the hotrod itch.

Sweeping generalisations eh. Your right there is always an element like this at *some* P&P sites but those people are hugely outnumbered by the element which wants to enjoy their off roading in a fairly safe environment.

Your going to get some nobs in whatever sport/pastime you get involved in - its just human nature.

The guy in the discovery didnt harm anybody or anything other than his own vehicle. The guy pulling him out enjoyed doing so.

I didn't watch the video( not interested) My comments reflected the previous nob comments. Sadly offroading seems to attract a disproportionate amount compared to other hobbies, motorised or not.
But if it works for you, that's all that counts, right?

Agreed, the rot sets in though when said knobs actively promote their fkwittery via the web leaving everyone branded with the same knuckle dragging yokel tag, which can make life very difficult when not at a P&P site. Tried laning in Derbyshire lately?
Besides, I wouldn't say being in close proximity to a burning vehicle which is being pushed around by a hero in a Defender is a "safe" environment. If anything, the lack of Road Traffic Act at a closed site can make people do things they wouldn't do otherwise.
'Course the real answer is to go overseas......

Vitaras are a reasonably good on/off road compromise. Small and light with locked front to rear drive.
Too many 'rednecks' with £100 Suzukis modified for £2.50 and an old Cornflake packet at P&P sites.
There should be basic scrutineering for anything towed to a P&P.
There are just as many knobs at track days too.

done a fair bit of off roading in the past and as said before, got out of it because of egoes and fools, i had a jeep xj, modded cheaply but not dangerusly. as for suzukis wow, ive seen them do things that would put a lot of expensive kit to shame, yea there cheap but would you take a 20k motor off road and use it??
has anyone else noticed the farmers/councils way of dealing with greenlanes? in shrop, some of them have been surfaced in gravel so there no fun anymore !!!!
if they cant ban it they spoil it ho hum.
