Has anyone been to Robin Hoods Bay 4x4 site?
What's it like?

Google earth makes it look like a field with tracks all over it.

It's pretty good. I did my first driving experience there, which got me hooked and led to me buying my first Landy.

We went for a weekend camping or driving in April this year with a club I know, and it's still as it was, pretty good, a good technical section at the top of the hill to teach or practice on and some nice big hills down to the muddy bit. A great view of the bay to boot.

The only downside for me is it's relatively small....

i've been plenty of times and it's good fun. it's basically on a huge hillside that looks out to sea and the views are stunning! ask about pinball alley when you get there, it can be quite exciting !!!

there's also a site at Wilton in Cleveland about 30 minutes further inland with a lot of people would say is better and bigger that RHB, im regular at this one but mainly because of it's proximity to my house rather than anything else. i enjoy both sites. if you need to know anything else just ask!

Paddy, google for 'nyoffroad', the guy who runs the place will give you tuition in your trooper there. It's got some very difficult stuff, but also has some stuff set up for learners....

Interesting, I am relatively close to both.

Educate me in these things. Just turn up ?
Would a stock Trooper (LWB) with AT's be suitable or will I stuff everything. Is this for "Let's OffRoad" types only ? ? ?
I'm fairly sure i've caught a glimpse of you in you're Trooper at ALE round the corner from where i work!

If you would prefer not to damage your vehicle RHB is a better bet as its more open and there are far less tree's to hit but it's also very good fun as there are some nice long hills and deep water to traverse.

Wilton is a different kettle of fish alltogether and is something of a vehicle breaker, diff's bodywork etc, the occsaisonal rollover. it's mainly due to how tight all the tracks are and all the tree's as the course is in dense woodland. there are also an amazing amount of bomb-holes that are all to easy to drop a wheel into at any given moment! it is however immense fun if you dont need to worry about using your vehicle the next day.

as for you're Troopers capabilities. i've been to RHB before on A/T's and had a good time, as long as you've someone there to pull you out should you run out of grip/talent. i would'nt recommend Wilton Lane on A/T's to be honest, when i go up there i run either a set of 265/75/R16 Insa Turbo Special Tracks, or a set of ridiculously huge 34 inch tall Simex Jungle Trekkers.

as for you're Trooper's general offroad ability, as i understand it, they're considered to be good off-road. i can't confirm this definately as i've never seen one used in anger!

at RHB you just turn up, however, i always ring first as there are sometimes Trials on and he closes the site to pay and players for the day. Wilton is a case of getting your name down on 'the list' if you decide you'd like to go i'd be happy to PM you my mobile number and i can get your name down.

Wilton is generally every two weeks, the next one being this sunday. if you'd like any more info dont hesitate to ask.

As has been said, it's a pretty small site but has some very challenging tehcnical parts.

Mrs Whoami managed to complete a 3 x rollover on her first outing here.

Having just purchased a "new" 90 for off-roading, we had words argue

Definitely worth a visit.

They do have a see saw. It's a bit rickety and needs someone to stand on the end until you get the wheels on.
