Off road experience days in the South
Discussion
My partner will be 31 next month and I fancy getting her an off road experience day as she is quite into her 4x4s and it's something a bit different
Can any of you recommend a good location to take her to? I've seen a few advertised but having had no experience of them myself I'm not sure how good they'll be and how much time she'd get behind the wheel.
We're based in the Basingstoke area so anywhere within 100 miles would do, although I'm happy to travel further if necessary
Cheers!

Can't help as I have a similar question so excuse the hijacking here. I did a bit of green laneing about 10 years back with a mate who had a 90 v8 conversion. Loved it and want to do it again, this time with the missus who's never done this before. My question was going to be does anyone have any experience of the LR experience days organised through the dealers?
I saw some last minute offers here but don't want to waste my money so any feedback appreciated:

I don't think you can go far wrong with the Land Rover Experience. I've done the one at Rockingham with my brother, we were lucky that there was another person due that was on a "red letter day"(we were on a freebie) but they didn't show. We had plenty of time behind the wheel and were only there for the morning, even if she got to drive all day, i doubt she would want to as its quite tiring.
For us it was a bit tame in places and the course is set out to show the trucks capabilities the best so it doesn't get really challenging but for most people it offers a great experience that they'll enjoy and pick up some useful pointers.

HI Mr happy,
I am treasurer for the Dorset Land Rover Club, on Aug 12th we are holding a charity based driving day, this will be the third time we will have held the event, called 'ladies day' however this time its strictly for charity, in aid on the Portsmouth Neonatal intensive car unit, the event will be held near Dorchester in Dorset, and there is a minimum 'sponsorship' fee of £25, however, if you/her were able to raise more, we/the charity would be most grateful, so far we have about 20 different land rovers, ranging from standard 110, to fully kitted challenge trucks, there will also be a Digger of some sort, as yet undecided, there might be a tractor if we can beg steal or borrow one, the idea is that the 'ladies' can choose which vehicles they wish to drive around our preset courses, and the owners of said vehicles will 'tutor' them in its operation and capabilities, there won't be any limit to the number of vehicles she could drive, time could possibly be the only limiting factor, there will be an onsite bbq, and toilets, if you would like to know more, or indeed book a place and get the 'sponsorhip' form, please contact our sec Caroline at caz22hart@gmail.com she is the main organiser of this event, which we hope will raise at least a 4 figure sum for the special car baby unit in portsmouth.
I hope this is of interest to you, and whats more, you would get a nice day out in the Dorset countryside, with great company.... and i'm sure that given vehicles with enough seats, you would be able to ride along aswell, for a small donation of course...;)!
Regards.

Thanks! Most useful, I'll see what's available. For us it was a bit tame in places and the course is set out to show the trucks capabilities the best so it doesn't get really challenging but for most people it offers a great experience that they'll enjoy and pick up some useful pointers.

Thanks for the response, unfortunately, rather than going to Bridport for our next camping trip in early August we're going to Bala Lake! Otherwise we'd have nipped down.I am treasurer for the Dorset Land Rover Club, on Aug 12th we are holding a charity based driving day, this will be the third time we will have held the event, called 'ladies day' however this time its strictly for charity, in aid on the Portsmouth Neonatal intensive car unit, the event will be held near Dorchester in Dorset, and there is a minimum 'sponsorship' fee of £25, however, if you/her were able to raise more, we/the charity would be most grateful, so far we have about 20 different land rovers, ranging from standard 110, to fully kitted challenge trucks, there will also be a Digger of some sort, as yet undecided, there might be a tractor if we can beg steal or borrow one, the idea is that the 'ladies' can choose which vehicles they wish to drive around our preset courses, and the owners of said vehicles will 'tutor' them in its operation and capabilities, there won't be any limit to the number of vehicles she could drive, time could possibly be the only limiting factor, there will be an onsite bbq, and toilets, if you would like to know more, or indeed book a place and get the 'sponsorhip' form, please contact our sec Caroline at caz22hart@gmail.com she is the main organiser of this event, which we hope will raise at least a 4 figure sum for the special car baby unit in portsmouth.

Out of interest, did you have an event with the Surrey Land Rover club last year in July? We noticed they had a large number of vehicles at the Golden Cap campsite when we were there
Either of these places will be great, I've done both:
www.truegripoffroad.co.uk - just outside Canterbury in Kent, purpose built off road site with a large range of vehicles really professional instruction. I did a 6 hour day and it was awesome, even blagged a run round in their H1 Hummer towards the end!
www.4x4driving.co.uk - down near Brighton, sites are also pay and play so a bit gnarlier, also no onsite facilities or vehicle choice as far as I know, but again very professional tuition.
There's also a Land Rover Experience place down near ashford, but haven't been there. I can imagine it being a bit corporate and tame to be honest.
Oh and Brands Hatch do off-road driving days too, just pricey as with all their experience packages. My money would be with True Grip.
