Memory Map for iPad

Is it a straight forward enough process, transferring the PC maps (which I've already got) to the iPad? I've heard this is where people experience most disappointment.
Doddle, has to be done through I tunes thingy though. There are clear instructions on the MM site.We were using an Ordnance Survey app for the ipad when we all got a telling off from the local council
You'd think the information would have been up to date, as it would only have been jiggered in to app format fairly recently, but two of the routes changed from byways to bridleways/footpaths a looong time ago
My Antisocial Use of a Vehicle letter is very handy for catching spiders though
We've been advised by friends to check the councils records in future as they'll always be up to date, make sure the routes are still byways

The county council owned definitive map is the ONLY way to ensure you're legal. A byeway's TRO status can change often and without warning. The trick is to upload the TRO and map data from the CC onto something like Memory map and therefore all the closed byeways are nicely highlighted in red (or whatever colour you prefer!) Some CCs will provide the data in a nice easy format, others will make it less easy.
Of course, this just ensures the less scrupulous adopt the can't be arsed attitude, and plough on regardless, and so the ever decreasing cycle continues.......

Is the iThingy bit still relevant if using maps previously purchased for use on a PC? Reading the MM site it seems the app will read these, but user reviews suggest otherwise.
It should work. I bought MM about 6 years ago or so to use on my PC and a windows driven tablet/bluetooth GPS.I bought the mapping for Bristol across to Essex and south, in 1:50k.It was the premium edition with all the aerial photos too. I bought my Ipad about a year ago, and bought the app, and have happily used the old maps.It works quite happily. Not that I use it any more, lost the offroading bug.I've got a nice RAM mount for the Ipad if you're interested!
