You could get 2 of these for the price of a Freelander; http://www.dacia.co.uk/

But would you?

I'd get one, And a sammy. It is a cheaper car, but with cheaper build. I think they are quite cool. They look good in the flesh, anyway.

There's quite a lot of these in Crete, but don't beleive the £10k headline price. Add several '000£ for 'spering the car up to a reasonable level. Here, they are not cheap by any means, and remember...............

'only b udgies go cheap!'

Loads in France. I quite like them, but that may be just because they were unfamiliar so looked exotic.

Aren't they based on a car platform? Not sure they'd really have the same off road ability as a Freelander and certainly not the residuals.

I'm not convinced it would make much difference. As long as the chassis is rigid enough, it shouldn't matter too much if it is monocoque, or ladder, etc. Suspension and the diff set up will probably make more difference.
