Have a range rover classic, thinking of fitting a cb radio. Don't know why, just always wanted one. Probably a smokey and the bandit thing. Any comments, and want models would you recommend?

Thanks.

It depends on your typical usage of the truck. If you regularly off road then its a worthwhile mod. If you're laning its good if most trucks have a cb or even just 2 so you can have one front an rear in communication. For pay and play its good to call for help as often the marshalls will be equipped with a cb.
I turn mine on on the road now and again but only ever get a little chatter, the trucks still have twigs fitted but i've not heard any on there. IMHO its great for offroad but make it so you can remove the rig and antenna as you'll have little use on road.
I was looking at Midland and TTI rigs but my dad gave me his old one instead. If you look on ebay there's some great package deals.

As above. Good for lanning/off road trips, but not much else happening really. I've an Intek M760 plus with stinger/ K40 antennas. Think I caught conditions just right at one point. I was parked outside Kent & Canterbury hospital and was speaking to a guy in Co Donegall in the north of Ireland. (although in the North of Ireland, it's classed as Southern Ireland. Lol )

Worth it

We did a weekend trip to Kent and I would have been buggered without it. Good fun keeping up the banter between vehicles as well, and not quite so boring when you end up driving on your own!

I got a starter pack from Thunderpole, came quickly and easy to fit. Had all the bits and pieces included at a decent price as well, I'd tried looking at different shops with the radio/mount/aerial going cheap but by the time I'd added it together and a bunch of different P&Ps it was cheaper to get the bundle.

As above.
Invaluable off roading or green laning. Elsewhere not a lot use.
Basic set, ariel and mount, budget for around the £60 mark off the bay of e.
4x4CB are also putting out decent packages tailored to your needs, and they're extremely helpful. The website has a lot of "how to's" and information on setting up etc.
I've just put a set in my D2. Been off road with and without a set, really makes a difference.
Took about a couple of hours to fit, only because I wanted to fit it tidily.

hehe A 35 year old young man! My bro and I both got one, as it saves us beeping, and yelling stuff at each other when out on the trails! hehe

Had one for years and in fact even bought a US frequency one that I take with me and stick in the hire car there.
They are great for off-roading (though only if the other people with you have one too!!) and can be good for getting news of hold ups on the motorway network etc.

Make sure you get a decent aerial. The ones we got has a mount suitable for a taxi cab, but not for driving with overhead branches, etc.

Totaly worth it for off-roading with mates.

However, the added bonus of having one in my Jeep is:

The way a huge, four - foot long whip aerial sticking up at the back makes my car look cool, in a way that my inner 10 year old mind appreciates biggrin

I also find it hilarious when I go into multi-storey car parks (which my Jeep only just fits into height-wise) and the aeriel scrapes around on the roof.

Great fun for big kids innit.

Agreed on all points.

  • clang* *clang* *clang* *clang* *clang* *clang* as it bounces off the ceiling lights in multi stories.
I wanted to add some flint to the top of it to make me feel like I was in a dodgem with sparks everywhere.
