BARKER: 'O's!
CORBETT: 'O's?
BARKER: 'O's.
(He goes to get a hoe, and places it on the counter)
BARKER: No, 'O's!
CORBETT: 'O's! I thought you said 'O! (he takes the hose back, and gets a hose, whilst muttering) When you said 'O's, I thought you said 'O! 'O's!
(He places the hose onto the counter)
BARKER: No, 'O's!
CORBETT (confused for a moment): O's? Oh, you mean panty 'o's, panty 'o's! (he picks up a pair of tights from beside him)
BARKER: No, no, 'O's! 'O's for the gate. Mon repose! 'O's! Letter O's!
CORBETT (finally realising): Letter O's! (muttering) You had me going there!
(He climbs up a stepladder, gets a box down, puts the ladder away, and takes the box to the counter, and searches through it for letter O's)
CORBETT: How many d'you want?
BARKER: Two.
(Ronnie Corbett leaves two letter O's on the counter, then takes the box back, gets the ladder out again, puts the box away, climbs down the ladder, and puts the ladder away, then returns to the counter)
CORBETT: Yes, next?
BARKER: Got any P's?

Iirc they're a highly regarded winch with a reputation for being unburstable but a bit slow.

Istr the slowness was because you have to power out rather than freespooling because the drum is worm driven, but this meant they were much in demand as a rear winch for challenge trucks because lowering yourself down a slope is a lot safer than it would be with something like an 8274.

Slow is good Im not planning to do any winch challenges! im going to use it for hauling logs out of tricky places as my mate is a tree surgeon.

Solid but heavy. Winch challenges require 8274's with uprated solenoids.

Huskys have freespool... There's a lever on the side.

Huskys have a reputation for being slow but they are bomb-proof and can work all day without overheating. Also, due to the nature of the drive, it is probably about the only winch I'd ever run synthetic on as the drum won't get hot & melt the line (as with almost any other design of winch)!

That said... Personally, I'd prefer to run a Turfor (hand winch) as it is far more versatile for self recovery.

honestly you'd PREFER a tirfor?

now they have their uses, but i'd rather have a leccy winch and a hi-lift. lets be honest just how many times do you need to winch the vehicle sideways or backwards? can't think of a situation where i haven't been able to get out of it with a hi-lift and a winch and a couple of snatch blocks....

Yes, I would honestly prefer a tirfor.

The only time you would really NEED a winch is if you are out on your own & stuck. In that scenario, the quickest way of getting un-stuck is generally to go out the same way that you went in... Backwards! Most electric winches are nailed to the front. You are also unlikely to burn out a hand winch. wink

If you are out with others, the quickest way of getting un-stuck is to use a decent rope and a quick tug from one of the others.

On top of that, a vehicle mounted winch affects the handling of the car. Not only do you have approx 100Kg forward of the front springs (changing body dynamics & approach angles) but you also have to change the spring setup. Then there's the overhead on the electrical system... Care & maintenance... All for something which rarely gets used...

That said, there are always going to be the exceptions but for me, that is what I'd use.

...and out of those situations:

How many would have been made easier by just getting a tug backwards?
How many of those situations were you winching correctly/safely with a straight line pull... i.e. not pulling sideways??? wink

I bought an MOT failure discovery a year or so ago which apparently "had a winch I can't be bothered to remove, so you take it"

I removed the bull bar and bumper and found under the steel housing, a superwinch husky :O

Needless to say after fitting and upgraded motor and a service, it is performing wonderfully.

It says something when the winch design has not been changed for nearly 30 years

Only paid a couple hundred for the whole disco :P

It's 'amusing' how certain threads degenerate into the same old.
