Ford Ranger rough idle
Discussion
Hi,any Ford tech's out there?
I've got a Mk 1 Ranger 2.5 turbo diesel which runs like a bag of ste when warm, start from cold and she runs perfect until the temp starts to rise. I've had the injectors reconned, as they were poor anyway, I've also cleaned out the EGR valve, checked all vac pipes to the various switches, cleaned all under bonnet connections and earths, but it still runs bad, it's hunting to the point of stalling, and smoking badly, but when driven it seems to clear, although acceleration is a tad sluggish, was wondering if there's a common fault with anything that I could try before taking to be plugged in, as local dealer wants £120+vat to just diagnose! I'm guessing it's something electrical causing it as mechanical stuff seems OK
Would be grateful for any ideas
Cheers

have you checked the valve clearances ?? the other thing maybe the pump is worn and once the diesel is warm to thin for it to pump enough pressure ...I've got a Mk 1 Ranger 2.5 turbo diesel which runs like a bag of ste when warm, start from cold and she runs perfect until the temp starts to rise. I've checked valve clearances, they were fine, when I bought the truck the pump was shot, so I fitted one from a breakers, it could be on the way out again I suppose, but I get the impression it's not the pump this time, using it today and it drove ok, go to work this evening, and it drives like a bag of ste again, it's driving me nuts! it'll have to go to be plugged in I guess, either that or set fire to it
Cheers for the reply anyway
