Help..... I am thinking of buying a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee but when you turn the steering wheel full lock to the right you can hear & feel a very very slight grinding noise. This does not happen when turning left! The right front off side lower ball joint is an advisory on the MOT, if I have this done, do you think it will cure the very slight grinding? I am only asking as the bodywork & inside of the car are mint, but this is nagging on my mind.

Could be steering box possibly. Come over to http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/forum/ & ask there.

Spoke with Jeep main dealer service dept. they reckon it won't be the lower ball joint but from my discription it sounds like nothing to worry about. It is an 8 year old car with 71k on the clock & from what he was saying they are fairly bomb proof! Lets hope he is right........

To be honest Ive not heard anything from mine on full lock. But I'll check it out tomorrow if possible and listen for any noises I may have missed.

It could be the famed power steering 'honk' noise. The fix involves changing a load of the power steering pipes for revised ones.

Search jeep forum.com for more info in the WJ section.

When you say 'honk' it implies its a loud horn like noise, is there any steering wheel vibration with the 'honk'? The noise I hear & feel is very minimal & if you are not pupously listerning out for it you won't hear it! It only occurs when turning full lock to the right, I'll have to check to see if there is wheel rub on chassie or wheel arch, one thing I didn't look for. I will also have to power steering lines to make sure they are not touching.
