Hi all,

Would like a bit of advice. Ive been offered a S reg TD5 90 in silver for £5k and would like to know what you think.
I know I'm a bit vague on details but I havn't seen it as yet. Are they really worth this much? Are the TD5 reliable? It does look a bit batterd in the pic.
I'll post more details once I know more but heres a pic:

Miles, condition and mods?

£5k sounds very good but dependant on the above.

My Dad has a TD5 110, only problem engine related we have had is oil running down the loom into the plug on the ECU which is common.

Personally i dont like the engine off road but people prefer different things.

If the interior is in ok condition and dosent stink of horse st then £5k is probably about right but im not sure, i wouldnt worry about bodywork dents or scratches its just charector.

Is there a winch in that front bumper? ETA: I see there is, has it been used hard off road?

Hmmm... Sounds almost too good!

I think I'd be including a HPI check in there too. If it's kosha, look at these areas:

Chassis (especially rear cross member)
Brake lines
Check oil for signs of diesel (new cyl head needed)
Bulkhead

Then, if you get it:

Change the wheels for something more original (XS alloys)
Change the bushes back to rubber
Flog the winch (unless you use it all the time, they're just a liability and just there for show!)

£5k seems a bit much from the way its described.

Also, how is a winch a 'liability'? confused

If you know what you're doing and need to use one regularly then they're great but if you 'want' one, "coz it's wot evry one has innit" then don't bother!

It's a lot of extra weight forward of the front springs.
You'll rarely use it (if ever!)
It costs a lot of money.
You need to keep it maintained (coz otherwise, when you do come to use it, it'll just conk out!)
It can only pull in a straight line... Forwards! (When stuck, you want the quickest way out... Usually, that's back out the way you went in).
If you don't know how to use one properly, you are an accident waiting to happen!

IMO Unless you're entering winch challenge events (where you'd want an 8271 anyway) you're better off investing in a decent set of ropes and a hand winch... That combo is a lot more versatile and cheaper.

Don't get me wrong, right place, right time... Winches are brilliant.

However, most winches are fitted as bling without thinking it through.
