In my very, very humble opinion, I'd have to say money pit.

Purely based on the fact that every elderly modified disco I've looked at with a view to purchasing over the last year has been, frankly, a horror story. The owners seem to think they are worth a fortune despite having more welding (and of various quality) than the Ark Royal, and have a lot of work creeping up to be done on the drivetrain.

They obviously feel just because they've went a bit mad with the upgrade options over the years, that the trucks worth serious cash. Not to me, or it would seem to anyone else as they stay for sale for months. Yet clean unmodified disco's sell very well around here.

Good luck, and I hope your search goes better for you than mine did. I've gave up on the already modded disco idea now. Too many money pits out there.

Im not sure entirely where the OP is but i dont think he should have much problems with rust.

In the UK i would say its worth about half that.

We used to have one of those and they go well offroad, will keep up fine with a similar spec Defender if you can drive it. All the mods are top quality parts though, so you shouldnt be disapointed with it.

Fully aware of the OP's general location chap, but as I remember about a year ago or more he killed the gearbox on his Toyota by dunking it up to the steering wheel in a river, I'm prety sure he gets mud over in his part of the world as well hehe

Anyways, for £9k I'd rather have this than a landy!

and sod the fuel consumption!

Haha - but it wasn't the dunking that killed the transmission - it was the garage putting the wrong grade of oil in it when I got them to change the transmission oil as a precaution. Sold that Landcruiser and got another posher one, but wife is reluctant to let me take it adventuring as it has become 'her' car.
