According to a mountain railway employee it's "an incredibly dangerous thing to do".
Right ho, more dangerous than taking a load of American tourists in shorts and flip flops up there by train?
My guess is it's out of fuel.
Yup, or mechanical issue. Doesn't look particularly difficult trails.Right ho, more dangerous than taking a load of American tourists in shorts and flip flops up there by train?

Did not end very well for the owner of the car.

Does seem like the 'elf'n'safety jobsworths are getting a bit overexcited about it. If he drove up the track then anything a train, even rack and pinion, can do a 4x4 (even a Frontera) would find easy. I suspect once he reached the top enough of the alcohol had metabolised for him to realise driving back down wasn't a good idea Allegedly
I wonder if they'll do him for no front numberplate as well?

Just imagine in the morning waking up with a massive hangover and looking at your phone to see "ok ... you win the bet ..." and then wondering where the hell your car is !I wonder if they'll do him for no front numberplate as well?

If PLOD are feeling aggrieved and want to make an example to discourage such antics they could pursue a plethora of charges. The National Parks Authorities will not want a repetition.
Expect a deluge of condemnation and rant.
A bobble hat wearing Daily Mail reader from the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team said:
"This sort of incident is unacceptable and shows a lack of responsibility on behalf of the individual/individuals involved.
"Along with the obvious dangers posed by this type of incident, it could cause damage to the footpath and landscape, which means added work for the Snowdon footpath teams."
What's unacceptable is that chintzey eye sore of a seaside railway stuck to the hill, the flip-flop wearers who get cattle-classed to the summit then complain their phone doesn't work, and that stty little cafe which together have turned Snowdon in to Europe's naffest mountain."Along with the obvious dangers posed by this type of incident, it could cause damage to the footpath and landscape, which means added work for the Snowdon footpath teams."
I'm lost as to precisely what the "obvious" dangers are that Llanberis MRT are wittering on about, I mean it's not like he tried to drive it down Crib Goch or something. And if they're really worried about damage to the hill, rip up the precious paths in a bod to disuade the millions of Size 9s that stamp all over Snowdon every year.
