Grand cherokee.

The ones on the roof look hard work, so prefer a rear mount.

Car has a tow bar if this is best way.

3 bikes minimum, 4 would be better.

Thanks

As you have a towbar fitted already i'd suggest one of those, i've no experience of them personally but i've got a spare wheel mounted one for 2 bikes on my jimny and its a lot of weight on the back door. I only really use it for my bike on my own and use a trailer if we're taking all our bikes.

I can recommend the very sturdy Thule range of tow bar bike racks (available mail order from roof racks.co.uk) which come with a built in number plate and electrics. I have used one successfully on my 4x4 for several years and can carry up to 4 mountain bikes. The only drawback is that once the rack is in place, it is not possible to access the boot easily so packing the car takes some planning. The rooftop carriers from Thule are also good but tricky to use on the high roof of a 4x4.

These are brilliant and the one we have tilts forward when in place, so that opening the boot is possible, though accessing the contents is still compromised some.
