Tidworth tank tracks
Discussion
A lot of Salisbury Plain is open to the public, but only BOATs ( byeways open to all traffic) unless someotherspecific permission has been granted by the MOD. The onus is on you to ensure the byeway is not restricted in anyway. The obvious "playground" behind Tidworth (Sidbury Hill) is strictly off limits, unless it has been hired by a club. You will be held to account if you decide to just 'have a go'. If you are new to this, I suggest you go out with a reputable club, and be careful of that one too, as many of them talk the talk, but know jack about doing it properly.
Good luck.
Good luck.

As it should be tbh, that place can hold some very nasty surprises even when it looks dry and inviting, you'd have to pretty daft to go playing on there without some backup and support.Sidbury Hill CCDA is one of the most closely watched bits of SPTA, what with Clarkson doing the RRS v Chally 2 bit there.
Claiming you're just lost doesn't work either.....signs all round the place tell you it's off limits and as mentioned this isn't just because the MOD are a bunch of kil joys. Some of the obstacles are deliberatly designed to topple vehicles for recovery training.
Plenty of other places to go.

Thanks guys, I`ve told him to go buy some good OS maps for the by-ways. He doesn`t want to join a club I`m afraid.
Hmm, even so, his best bet would be to seek some previously experienced company before heading that way. Really easy to get mis-placed or to mix up (non-public) range roads with (public) by-ways. He's unlikely to get locked up or anything like that (unless it's obvious he's gone off piste on purpose) but the best bits of Salisbury Plain are the bits the Tankies don't use.
