What I want is a Classic RR, but they only have a centre lap belt in the back and I have 3 kids.

D3s and XC90s are a bit pricey, although they're possibilities if we have a full fleet rejig, and I'm not keen on a D2. Cheap is good. Anyone know when Cherokees and Grand Cherokees got three proper belts?

Eta some politeness. biggrin cheers beer

What's your budget? I think the Shogun 3.2 (2000-on) has 3 3-pointers.

Hmmm, you'll struggle to get a 3.2 shogun for that...

You can get 3 point belts for mid-centre seats on the defender. And you can put forward facing seats with 3-pointers in the back but you'll struggle to get a decent one for £2k.

Honda CRV whilst not a full-size 4x4 is quite roomy and has 3 3-point belts...

I did wonder about the CRV, and the XTrail, but I wouldn't mind Some greenlaning and I'm not convinced about how good they are. And if I was going down the soft-roader route I'd choose a Forester.

No experience of the xtrial but the crv would definitely struggle on green lanes...

Tricky one. Does the p38 range rover have 3x 3-pointers? scratchchin

Mitsubishi Delica 7 seater (not sure about the 8 seater), if all rear seats are facing forward has 4 3-point and 1 lap belt in the back.

Sounds good, but I bet the lap belt is in the middle of the second row. Which means we struggle to fit the double buggy in the boot.frown

In the 7 seater the rear seats have the lap belt in the middle. The middle seats are 2 rotatable captains chairs, but even in the SWB there is loads of room for a double buggy behind the rear seats. You can also fold the rear seats up if need be. In the LWB the boot area is huge.

Gotcha. I'm still unconvinced, our buggy is vast and I'd rather keep all three kids in the middle row if possible.

Would you look at fitting a 3 point belt in the middle? I can't see it being that hard to do to a classic RR or Disco.

Exmoor trim do one for the Defender that they reckon will work for a RR but there's no top hanger so it relies on the seat back for support. It's an option but I come over all H&S when my kids are involved redface

ETA the other option is to fit a D2 rear seat.

Does the d2 have a centre 3 point belt?

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want a d2?

They do.

And I don't know why I don't want one, if I'm honest. Probably because I really want a D3 but can't afford one.

And further to the D2 thing, they look a bit dated compared to the competition.

Just had a look at a new shape Grand Cherokee 3l diesel and I have to say I really like it. On an 06 plate with 88k and only £10k, which makes it a bargain compared to the competition. Only down side is that the boot is a bit small and the sill is pretty high.

You see those goalposts?

Binoculars might help...biggrin

Typically I've just typed a huge reply and my browser's crashed.

In a nutshell, we're buying a place in the sticks down a tiny single track road. SWMBO's SMax is a bit too shiny to be happy bumping off the road to let other cars by and we could do with freeing up some cash. So a rejig of the fleet is on the cards.

I am aware, but in my defence my OP was vague enough to cover this paperbag

ETA Should I mention that I'm considering W124 Merc estates too on the grounds that the whole of north Africa uses them as taxis so they'll probably cope in Dorset hehe
