Hi all

Can somebody describe in words of one syllable how you put the following into reverse gear

Freelander
Discovery 2
Defender

It's a long and somewhat embarassing situation so I won't bore you. All advice gratefully received and TIA

With the Defender it'll depend on which gearbox it has. I can think of 4 manual gearboxes and an auto (which I believe only went in the NAS 90 and the Anniversary). LT77s have reverse top left, the R380 and LT85 gearboxes bottom right.

No idea how the later 6 speed box works because I've never seen one. No idea about Freelanders or Discos either because I've no interest in them!

Freelander is simple.

Clutch down, along to the right, back. No lifting or depressing levers.

Above is for my 04 td4.

Assuming the Defender is either TD5 or 300TDi, reverse should be in the same position for all of them... i.e. To the right and down (below 5th)!

Thanks CL

The vehicle in question was a Disco 2. It turns out that it would only go into reverse gear if the lever was first moved fully to the right before being moved back fully to the left and slotted forward into reverse. (My nephew had been left with the keys and told to use it for security patrol but couldn't back it out of the parking space rofl)

There's a little sprung loaded catch on that gearbox (R380) to prevent you from going straight from 5th into Reverse!!

Sounds like his one could do with a little lube...

He's working as a Security Guard on various sites during the Summer uni break (4 freckin months off !!). The Disco in question is the "Pool" Patrol Car and not treated well by all accounts so you are probably correct wrt the Lube.

Maybe he can ask the other guards if they've got some spare lube at shift change scratchchin
