Bloody hell. Not only are 4x4s marketed on the biggest loads of bks ever, they even produce films to show that in something as gargantuan as a Q7 you're alright driving round blind bends on gravel at speed.

Yes it is. Not for TV, that's all.

Thing is, in all those roughy toughy far-off lands, how come the locals are all driving Hi-Luxes? smile

because LR got cocky and didn't give people what they asked for they knew best and suffered for it.

despite their reputation which in my experience is now that warranted, i would still rather drive a Land Rover across Africa or Australia than any other. You just know at some point you may need that extra off road ability they seem to have.

I dunno, because those roughy toughy far-off lands are closer to Japan, geographically and eceonomically?
Because LR were concentrating on a different area of the market when Japan got on the 4x4 train?

Anyhow, a LR or HiLux are equally good for towing that particular bandwagon you've jumped on.

The thing is, I could lob a winch on a ford fiesta, and 'climb' that dam.

Fair point, but as an advert it seems to work well as the public surely know that the Land Rover has great capabilities anyway and even though the vehicle might technically not matter, the Land Rover fits in well and it looks spectacular.
