Hi, I have a Toyota Granvia 4x4 3.0 turbo diesel. I am looking at replacing the front two tyres as they have a considerable amount more wear, especially on the shoulders of the tyres.

I have been looking at replacing them with the same tyres that are currently on all the wheels but I have read a lot of conflicting advice regarding this.

1) Is it 100% yes that the tyres must be the same make?, obviously they will be the exact same size.

2) What are the "dangers" regarding having half worn ,4mm tread depth on the back and brand new ,8mm different brand of tyres on the front?

3) What would be the best considering the cost , and quality of the tyre?

Size - 225/70/15

Thanks in advance

Well, I would always have the same tyres on my car. Not sure if there is a sane and justified reason, but in my mind you want the same level of grip, and water clearence on the front ad back. A difference could make things interesting. However, I've ne ver tried it so I could be talking bullcrap.

As for lobbing them on the back I'd lob them on the back, and wear may even out a bit, leaving you to replace all 4 at once. Then just rotate tyres when possible. Shouldn't be an issue.

I just replace the ones that are worn - never had a problem.
Normally either both front or both rear.

as far as i am aware (may be way off base here) but you can put different tyres on the front and rear however the front 2 have to be the same as each other as do the rear 2. Now on a 4x4 i have heard slightly different things, was told off for having different tyres on the rear as with drive going to all four wheels it can cause problems that just arent there on a 2wd car
