I am involved in a project to drive three mid 90's lhd nissan patrol down to Ghana to donate them to the government and to the charity afrikids, so they can turn them into Ambulances.

The route is fine, funding should be ok ( thinking about 5k per car ), not much of it will be off road, we will be camping along the route. the cars need to be diesel, manual and non turbo to make them the same as the vehicles they already have and work on. They also have to be LHD as RHD are illegal over there and adds to the cost to get them changed over.

I could do with info/help with
1) sources of said vehicle ( here or Europe, here ideally )
2) buying guides ?
3) a rough idea of spares that would be useful to take along with us
4) diesel mechanic course available in west london
5) any tips from anyone of you that have done anything similar
6) any things that should be done pretrip to ensure as few problems as possible.

Regards
Ben

you're really going to struggle to find a LHD N/A diesel patrol in the UK- would be a handful at best- certainly i never saw one when i was looking for a patrol or amazon to buy.

think you're going to have to look on the continent- have you thought about looking at landcruisers- gut feeling is that they are more common both here and abroad (although this is not based on fact- purely speculative opinion based on visting overlanding shows here and abroad)

Cheers pug, I actually made a mistake, it is a non tubro petrol they want which should make things a bit easier.

The reason it has to be those at the moment, is because that what the mechanic there can fix, if it is a auto they have to tow it 200 miles to get it fixed, god knows where they have to take it if it is a different make !

The UN ran a lot of them, so you can bet they're out there in the EU. Not sure if they used diesels or not though.

They're widely available in the middle east too, so Dubai car classifieds are worth a check. Happy to assist if you need importing help etc.

Probably diesel due to the 'one fuel' policy within the armed forces?
