WORLD RECORD-BREAKING MACHINE IS JUST 'THE ULTIMA'
The multiple world record-breaking Ultima GTR720 road car is just one of the mouth-watering machines that will be on display at the PistonHeads Performance Car Show from 14-17 January 2010 at the NEC in Birmingham.
The British-designed and built machine went from zero-100mph and back to zero in just 9.4 seconds. It also accelerated from 0-100mph in 5.3 seconds, and braked from 100mph to zero in an amazing 3.6 seconds, all three are Guinness World Records for road cars.
An Ultima GTR has now set the fastest 0-100-0mph supercar world record for three consecutive years. The 720bhp car that outpaced road-legal machinery from Bugatti, Ferrari and McLaren in 2009 didn't use any traction control or ABS devices, and was driven on public roads to and from the record runs by Ultima Director Richard Marlow.
"There is no other supercar in history which can match the pace of the Ultima GTR in this discipline," said Ultima Director Richard Marlow. "The V8-engined, 720bhp GTR720 is also fantastic to drive at more sedate road speeds. I use it as my everyday vehicle in all road conditions."
"This is another example of the quality of design and engineering within the British motoring industry," said PistonHeads Show Director Ian France. "The Ultima that will be at the show beat famous supercars to these world records, yet is on the market for a fraction of the price."

The reason why it has not (and will not) appear doing a power lap on Top Gear is that it would put in a time so fast that it would seriously embarass a lot of the really premium supercars from the 'mainstream' manufacturers. These manufacturers would be less inclined to co-operate with the producers of the show in sending free test cars down etc etc which would make the program really dull in the future because these types of 'exotic' super car are 'more interesting' to most of the viewers.
Well, this is what I understand the thinking to be. If it was up to me, I'd put anything and everything round and nuts to the manufacturers taking their ball away. I'd then either shame/embarass them into co-operating, or just pay to rent their car and test it anyway. (Not sure if the world works like that, hence we're in the situation we're in.)
