BIRMINGHAM HOSTED WORLD-FIRST VIEWING OF VR CAMARO
PistonHeads: The Performance Car Show launched the eagerly anticipated VR Camaro, a tuned Camaro tweaked specifically for UK roads.
Visitors to the show, which runs alongside Europe's largest motorsport show, Autosport International, got a first glimpse of the VR Camaro at the NEC Birmingham on 14-17 January 2010.
The VR Camaro gets a big jump in power over its stateside cousins as well: it's equipped with a 6.2-litre GM V8 and new compressor-style supercharger designed and built in the UK, a combination that is expected to produce more than 600bhp. To cope with the power, it's also fitted with 410mm (front) and 385mm (rear) diameter brake discs, with 12-pot front and eight-piston rear callipers.
Fans of the iconic Camaro can choose between the factory six-speed manual gearbox, which incorporates a short-shift kit, or the automatic transmission that has been crafted for the best possible performance.
Everything under the bonnet has been designed for speed, but the styling will stop you in your tracks. With a swollen front grill and classic Trans-Am-inspired ducktail spoiler, it is sure to turn heads. Its 22-inch wheels are machined from billet aluminium, making them half the weight of the original Camaro rims, and its bumpers, skirts and spoiler are all made from carbon fibre to reduce weight.
Although prices haven't been confirmed, it's expected to be half the price of the equally powerful £106,605 ZR1 Corvette...bargain!
