Ive been a few times, Thursday and Friday are trade days at the AutoSport show, the smaller engineering companies are there on these days (which was good for me as I was after specialist parts for a discontinued race engine). The show is generally to encourage people to get into motor sport. There are lots of stands there but not everything is on sale to the public. Its more about showcasing the company's products. They will then guide you to their recommended distributors. There are the usual stands of Die cast models, and Demon Tweeks always seems to do a lot of business at the show. Oh and the promotion ladies are rather nice too, scattered about the place wink Its not the sort of show where you will find big sound systems for cars, or neon lights wink PH did a great job last year showcasing members cars and also selling merchandise and encouraging people to visit the website and come to future meets thumbup If your into motor sport its worth going smile

I went on Thursday and Sunday last year,

As others have said try to get tickets for Thursday or Friday trade days as last year the very interesting engineering section of the show was replaced by a display of banger / stock cars / monster trucks and a few drag cars, which I didn't think was as good.

Not sure how you get tickets for the trade days, I think you could get them if you have a race license.

I go every year on the Thursday and Friday and even as a 59 year old bint I always find it very interesting and it is also great to catch up with friends. Trade days used to be fairly quiet but over the last couple of years they have become very busy.

It's a bone of contention with the exhibitors; how many kids are allowed in on "trade only" days. Same thing every year. Very poor show Haymarket; sort it out!

I agree they can be a pain. However they are allowed in if they have a race licence or are a junior member of the BRSCC but they must have an adult with them. What really surprises me though is how some people turn up in filthy jeans and trainers on trade days and look as though they have been sleeping rough.

A number of those young people are on related unverstity/college courses. I feel it is important to involve them as in a few years they will be entering the workforce within the motor and motorsport industry.

Obviously there are those among us that were never young and wish to send the battered remnants of the uk motor industry abroad. Where they will educate, include and encourage thier young workforce.

Thats fine, personally I would rather include them here and stand a chance of a car being built/designed in the UK in 10 years time.

I think you'll find that the majority of the exhibitors dissagree and would rather see real value from the entrants on trade day.

We do our bit for the young 'uns (including placements, work experience, sponsorship and college lectures etc) but trade days should be all about B2B commerce in my humble opinion.

Perhaps Haymarket should consider the requirements of the paying exhibitors. After all, the (serious) young 'uns are unlikely be dissuaded from motorsport activities just because they can't get a free ticket on trade day.

The actual numbers of students is low when compared to the number of trade b2b visitors attending. We have made efforts this year to ensure most of those student come over the weekend.

However some will always come on the Thursday/Friday and I believe this is only right, otherwise how would they get to experience that environment, get thier work placements and ask advice from those in the industry?

We have listened to those exhibitors who have complained, (in fact the largest number understand what we are trying to do) hence why we have made the effort to bring the larger number of students in at the weekend.

And the students/college's/unversities pay for a ticket, this ensures they only bring who they feel are relevant.. not just kids out for a jolly.

We have a balancing act putting on a show of this kind, it's not perfect but it is getting better.

I take the point on students appearance, we have informed all our student booking parties that those sold tickets for the trade days must try to dress approriatley... unfortunatley enforcing this is hard.

We are working on it.

I think you're missing the point, but good luck with not listening to your customers smile

My points are these:
1. If you requested feedback from your clients, I suspect you will find that almost none want the young 'uns on the trade days.
2. I think that the justification used in your first post for having them on trade days is flawed, because the serious ones will come on the other days, not just because they got a free ticket.

Anyway, that's my feeback for you.

All the best, and good luck with it.
