BMW Car Club GB has announced the cars they'll be bringing along for the PistonHeads Performance Car Show M-Power display. A series of M-cars from the last few decades will be on show to emphasise the development of the brand.

BMW Car Club GB spokesman Andrew Dale said: 'Eight cars from the Munich firm's sporting arm will be at the show, ranging from a BMW CSL 'Batmobile', based on the highly successful 1970s European Touring Car, right through to the current-model Z4M Coupé. Iconic models such as the first generation E30 M3 and rare Z3M 'Breadvan' will be present too, although the full list is still to be confirmed.'

The lineup will include a rare glimpse of BMW's legendary M1 supercar. The car on display will be one of just 339 road versions that were produced. Other special cars to be found at the show include an M3 CSL, the lightweight, hardened M3 coupé with carbon fibre body panels and an SMG sequential gearbox.

'It's easy to forget how many 'M' derivatives BMW have produced over the last four decades,' said PistonHeads Show Director David Ryan. 'Visitors are in for a real treat with the appearance of an M1. As the only production supercar in BMW's history, it's certainly something special.'

BMW's German compatriots Porsche will be joining them at the show. The Porsche Club Great Britain plans to bring 20 cars along, celebrating 5 decades of the iconic 911.

For those of you who don't know about the PistonHeads Performance Car Show, 2009 is the event's second year. As you'd expect from PistonHeads, a wide range of rare and exotic sports cars will be on display, mixed with all manner of other legendary metal.

The PH Car Display is the centrepiece of next January's show and will feature cars supplied by the PH community. It will include everything from Escort Cosworths and Jaguar E-Types, to DeTomasos and Morgans, Ferraris and TVRs.

The PH Show is co-located with Autosport International and your ticket gives you a seat at the Live Action Arena. Sit back and enjoy a spectacular show involving race and performance road cars, professional race drivers, celebrity presenters and guests from the world of motorsport.

The show takes place between the January 8 - 11 2009 and the website (www.pistonheadsshow.com) is regularly updated with any new exhibitions and highlights.

The only M1 I have ever seen [no Hatfield and the North jokes notice!]was awaiting import at Dover Hoverport in July 1985 - white with a blue stripe down the middle from nose to tail - I didn't have a clue what it was till the helpful Customs man told me.

And who remembers Hover-Rail now then?!
