The Art of Noise - Help needed please!
Discussion
When I was at school I had a few albums by The Art of Noise that I really enjoyed. Over the years I’ve replaced the tape cassettes with CD’s but there is one track that was on one of the tapes that I can’t find and I’m hoping someone can help.
I can only describe the song as having what sounds like yodeling and a motorcycle revving up then riding off then the rest of the song is quite fast paced.
It’s not on In Visible Silence, Below the Waste, In no sense nonsense or the Best of TAoN. Or at least one of the Best of as there were several versions. The tape I had it on was a copy with no track listing.
Can anyone help please as I have almost bought all their albums off ebay trying to find it!

Definitely Art of Noise and not something like Yello?
My thoughts too.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfgAlCzgMlM
I know what it's like when you get a tune in your head but can't track down the album and/or artist.
I've had a few trapped in my noggin for several years now...
Hopefully, I can help you with this one.
Samples of yodeling were used on several AON tracks and certainly many engine samples were scattered around, although the main ones I remember are more like aero engines (often sounding like an old biplane buzzing you) rather than motorbikes.
I'm ruling out "One Earth" because you said it's not on 'In No Sense? - Nonsense!'.
So, that would narrow it down in my mind to a track on 'The Ambient Collection' called 'Art of Love'. And a fine example of AON it is too.
HTH.

I'll have a listen to th eone you suggest. Thanks. I know the biplane sound you talk of but it is definitely the sound of a motorcycle starting up then riding off.
Thanks again
Edited to add it IS One Earth! How I've missed it I'll never know? how odd. And it is a biplane not a bike. Where the devil has the bike noise come in to it??? I guess it must be an interlude on one of the albums somewhere.
Anyway. Thank you!!!

Thanks, but no, it's not that. I do have that though and it's a great album.I've just listened to the 7" and album versions and the engine sample doesn't seem to be there!
There were quite a few different mixes of that track so maybe it's a different mix?
Take a listen to "beep beep" as well if you can find it. I think that's got some engine samples at the beginning.
I've got almost every AON track on another PC and I can have a listen to them all later if you're still stuck....

It's one earth. Many thanks
Ah-ha! No problem, glad I could help.
Interesting fact 1: The yodeling on One Earth was done by a bluegrass musician called Pete Rowan.
Interesting fact 2: A lot of the samples AON used on their early stuff can be had on a royalty-free CD released by JJ Jeczalik in the early 90's called 'Art of Sampling'.
ETA: I've just realised that the yodeling sample at the beginning of 'One Earth' is the same as the one on 'Art of Love' so I was probably confusing them myself!
