My CD collection is boring me.

I had over 2500 CD's a year or so ago but did a huge ebay session and sold over a thousand of them to fund a decent Christmas for me and the wife. My problem now is that I am sooooo bored with the stuff I have left and am losing faith that I'm going to find anything else to satisfy my auditory needs!

I listen to music all day, every day. I love it - listening, playing, writing, critiquing, everything about it! I have a hard drive full with 164.2 days worth of music on it (yes, I was sad enough to work that out) but none of it is really inspiring me at the moment and I flick past hundreds of bands and musicians that I've loved for years, just because I'm 'not in the mood' for it and I've heard it all before.

My tastes vary dramatically. My collection includes Maralyn Manson, Korn, Spice Girls, Blink 182, Busted, Mott The Hoople, Queen, Slayer, Beatles etc etc. My tastes are leaning more towards the rocky/punky genre at the moment - my current favourite listens are Blink 182, Bowling For Soup, Train, Plain White T's and a few others.

Can anyone reccomend me (or teach me how to spell reccomend?) some decent bands or tunes please?

On a related note - I have recently discovered an american band called 'Ludo'. If you're in to the above kind of music, I highly reccomend (there's that bloody word again) them.

Thanks all!

The problem in trying to recommend music to someone with a collection as large as yourself is the high chances of you already having it!

If you're in a punk-ish mood how about some Sum41 or maybe some Reel Big Fish or Streetlight Manifesto for some Ska-Punk?

Go to last.fm or spotify and set up a channel with a band you like. It will suggest/play other similar bands.

Music is a very personal thing. I discovered this girl about 2 years ago and quickly found I liked everything she has done:

To me, she has an amazingly powerful voice. As far as I know, all of the above songs were recorded when she was just 17. Unfortunately she is virtually unknown in the UK.

Community radio from New Orleans. Always interesting, and a massive variety of music.

when looking for stuff I actively try to find things I don't really like much, and see if I can interest my self in it.

I've been listening to a bit of Social Distortion recently. They've a bit of a punk / rock flavour to them. Try their self-titled album to start with, it was their breakthrough album and has some good tunes on it.

As a more obscure recommendation try finding a band called "The Finger". It was a side project of Ryan Adams and Jesse Malin, with fits well into the New York punk genre. Neither Adams or Malin were credited on the sleeve notes, they both used made up names.

Apocalyptica, it's Metallica on the cello! They also did a bunch of collaborations with singers from other bands.

Slash released a new album last year which I quite like.

I tend to be a fan of a few songs rather than bands, recently I've been listening to "Be My Friend" by One Eyed Doll which is very good if not a little creepy.

Ooooh, me likey!! Very Skunk Anansie, but that is definitely not a bad thing!

Cheers for everyones comments so far. You're all right, music is a very personal thing hence why Nat King Cole is right next to Nine Inch Nails in my collection (with Natalie Imbruglia between them, just to keep the peace). There have been some fantastic reccomendations recommendations, suggestions so far, definitely some that I will be checking out!

Cheers guys!

I'm exactly the same! That's why my CD collection got so big to begin with, I would spend literally all of my wages as a teenager on a complete album after I'd heard one song! I think I went out with £15 on my 18th birthday because I'd spent all my money on music!

I LOVE Apocalyptica! I would really like to see them live, I think they played a few years back near me (Southampton) but that was before I started to get into them, gutted to miss it thinking back!

You can find more of her songs on YouTube. She's only really done 1CD and an EP but is currently recording another album. Her first CD is only available on import in the UK.

Look on Spotify for a band called The Bad Plus. Try some of their cover versions first... Iron Man is a favourite of mine.

Through their albums there's also a lot of Massive Attack, Portishead influence too...they're a British band but aren't very well known in UK, but really popular in Europe...I can't understand why they're not bigger in UK, I really can't...
