Been offered a nearly new Falcon G100 guitar for £25 off a friend. Reviews suggest it's not great but I just want something to have a play about on now and again.

Will trying to (re) learn on this cheap guitar just put me off playing or is it worth a punt?

If it comes with a strap you're not far off breaking even, even if you use it for firewood, so you might as well.

From what I've read this is going to be a distinctly unrewarding guitar to play, with the strings too far away from the fretboard, rough frets, and dodgy tuners. If you want to play properly, spend a bit more and get a Yamaha for £100 off ebay, they're decent.

Cheapo guitars are a complete false economy - it will rip your fingers to pieces, will be tough to play, sound crap and will actively put you off playing.

Can't go wrong with the suggestion above.

Just bought a Yamaha on eBay. 20 years old, needs a clean and polish plus new strings but what the hell, only cost £80 including carriage and sounds brilliant. Only a laminated top but most Yammys have had those over the years and it hasn't done them any harm.
