Just watching Top Gear from last night.

Turns out they used a music track from a little known Manchester Band - The Chameleons - Second Skin (1984). Suppose only a Manc like me would know that....

Happy days.

I'm not a norvener but know this band well, got all their stuff. Too young to have seen them 1st time round but they did a reunion tour about 10 years ago so saw them at shepherds bush. Great gig, played a load of old favourites as well as stuff from their new album.

Another northerner (n.easterner to be pedant) (although I never knew they were Mancs) had a few long players of The Chamleons in my teens. Top band, but couldn't find them on itunes.

Tripped over a youtube video on Sunday of my very first proper gig, Simple Minds, Newcastle City Hall 1982, New Gold Dream tour... When Simple Minds were great!... And before Kerr let it go to his head, and wanted to be U2, Stad rock rivals. I mention Simple Minds, only because someone on Top Gear has a penchant for 'minds circa Sister Feelings Call and Sons & Fascination, judging by the Xmas special.

I love music spotting when it's on, and should really sit there with Shazaam on my iphone at the tv speaker, as it is almost always good choice of tunes. Lucky for the BBC they have a negotiated a licence with the music industry that virtually gives them carte blanche to use anything they like.

I'm not a Manc but I love The Chameleons - their first 3 albums are essential albums if you're a fan of 80s 'indie' music.

Nice to see that TG are beginning to use some interesting stuff - the Middle East Xmas special snuck in some Harmonia on there - classic Krautrock!
