Hi folks

well bought my first guitar a few days ago. just a cheapy from amazon (yamaha F310 if anyones interested). it arrived today, raced home to rip it from the packaging, i was plesantly supprised i thought it would be a real piece of cheap tat. it actually seems ok.

took a while to tune for the first time as the free tuner it came with is a little poor to say the least (i think anyway never having a tuner before i dont now what to expect)

been learning about the parts (i am a complete novice)and a few basic cords

here goes my first foray in to playing an instrument

and you know what i cant wait

regards
me

Yamaha's a great choice for a first guitar, they're proper instruments.

Tuners can be a bit sensitive to the tone of the strings; the tuner will work better in some places on the guitar than others, try moving it around a bit and see if you can find a sweet spot where the tuner tracks best.

With an acoustic I tend to lie the guitar on its back and put the tuner as close to the bridge as poss.

Congrats on buying a Yamaha by the way, their acoustics are second to none. In fact the older FG series are becoming quite collectable these days, as I'm finding to my cost; I'm currently trying to replace the FG160 I had years ago. I thought of it as some horrible cheap thing until my first visit to a recording studio, then an engineer stuck a mike in front of it and I realised it sounded brilliant!

Had my F310 for a good five years now (after returning to playing after a break of a few years) and still going strong. Great guitar for learning and improving. And that slightly shallower body makes it perfect for my daughters to learn on too. It's part of the family, if that doesn't sound too Waltons/Partridge Family/Gingangooly.
