Anyone watched the Peter Bogdanovich documentary, "Tom Petty: Runnin' Down a Dream". Epic in more ways than one (244 mins but an engrossing watch).
I love a lot of his music, have done since being a kid more or les, but even if it wasn't particularly my cup of tea the film would be interesting, an excellently made film.
Reminds me of The "Last Waltz" about The Band, in-depth and 'serious' with a really long time scale and insightful, honest warts and all interviews, that build a great story of an artist and band and the many changes over decades.
Well worth catching if it's repeated (as BBC 4 often do - even at weird, early hours).

Watch about an hour of it before I got dragged away. First 30/40 mins about how they started and went off to get a record deal was great. After that it got a bit dull. Need to watch the rest as I'm sure it's a good watch!
As it went on it got really interesting with a focus on his two big fights with the record companies and the rows/splits/disasters in the band. Also seeing the different producers and musicians he worked with like the Wilburys and Dylan, with some really god clips of studio sessions.
Kept me entertained right to the end and despite 3+ hours then didn't want it to end!

Long but great viewing
One of the best bands ever!
Just been listening to a number of old favourites and it's struck meOne of the best bands ever!
(a) how well they introduce and handle the chorus - like on 'Mary Jane's Last Dance' or 'Lonesome Sundown' (so beautifully sung and harmonised)
(b) how Dylanesque he was/became, lyrically as well as in 'sound'/vocal delivery
(c) how much I've underestimated the guitar playing - took it for granted but the lead and the overlays are superb and the rhythm guitar so crucial to keeping the pieces held together. At times they remind me of Crazy Horse.
(d) how brilliant the keyboardist is; so fluid.
Superb band as you say. Clearly led by Tom Petty but still very much a band effort.

WOW!Never seen that before. Macabre. A 'proper' music video - a story told through words, music and images. And that house! Hitchcock would be proud of that silhouette.
The only that thing that doesn't quite fit - or is left out - for me is that young man's growing frustration with the town he's grown up that's such a strong theme from the lyrics. Still, very interesting.
Brilliant song, as ever.
Cheers.
