As the title says really. My wife bought me some HMV gift vouchers and I don't know what to spend them on, so I'm looking for some suggested artists/albums that I can listen to to on SPotify to decide if I shoud buy.

Pretty eclectic tastes really, from Nick Drake to Dizzy Rascal, Colin Blunstone to Kanye West via Handel, Elton John, George Benson, Paloma Faith, Black Eyed Peas, The Prodigy ......

I've just listened to The Defamation of Strickland Banks and think that might be on the shopping list but anyone suggest anything else I should be considering? Even some classics that I may not/no longer have.

Had the same problem.. I used youtube/amazon and spotify to listen to potential purchases.

There is alot of junk about at the moment and HMV being HMV are selling it.

I'm not really into what gets called R&B nowadays but the Plan B album is good.
If you don't mind loud and a bit shouty "Light Me Up" by Pretty Reckless is pretty good. There is a thread running on here called "now this I do like"

The Pigeon Detectives albums are a few years old now but still sound fresh.
Maximo Parks "Our Earthly Pleasures" is still their best album if you haven't got it.
I did see a 3 album boxset of Kings Of Leon albums (early ones Aha Shake Heartbreak etc).
Going back earlier how about a Jam album/ best of ? or Clash ?

The blue and red beatles albums were on one of the main displays, so they might be on offer ?didn't look.

Sorry, might be a bit mainstream for your tastes.

Anyone listened to Matistahu? American Hasidic Jew, Reggae artist.......

Heard his single on Radio 2 and found his albums on Spotify and Youtube. Weird incongruistic stuff. Seeing a Hasidic Jew but hearing Reggae. Some USP; I think he might be on the buy list....

Fat Freddy's Drop? Have a listen to their 'Based on a True Story' album. I don't know how you'd describe the album, so I checked Wikipedia which say the genre is 'Dub, jazz, reggae, roots, rhythm and blues, techno'. Nice mix of everything. hehe

Yeah, I have a couple of Seasick Steve's albums. I'll add this one to the listen to list.

I'm listening to Cee Lo Green at the moment and trying to decide if I like it enough to buy it. But his nasal voice is getting on my wick again.

I've got the Youth album, it's good but not an all time classic.

Looks like he's got a couple out so I'll trawl through them a bit.

Just started having a listen to that and I like it; trying the Freddy's Drop album now and like that also. Looks like I may be drifting back to my musical tastes of the late 70s and early 80s.

I wonder if Desmonds is still in Brixton?
