Can anyone recommend me some rock songs which feature some stand out aggresive drumming?

I am looking for tracks where the drum is behind guitars/vocals, not just drum solos on their own. But where, in parts the drum stands out.

Any ideas?

Yeah Dream Theatre are great.

I like Rush - Neil Peart is a fantastic drummer. Also Spin Doctors if you want something a bit more funk/blues oriented. Aaron Comess does some really intricate stuff.

I first came across Symphony X supporting Dream Theater at Wembley Arena, they were fantastic live. To each their own though, that's the beauty of music!

They've been going 25 years, so only slightly less than Metallica..

ETA: they've just had an argument with their drummer Mike Portnoy who is now depping for

Mastodon - Divinations (and most of their stuff - although the older material is even more metal which isn't really to my taste)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxelXPg961M

Not necessarily always 'aggressive' drumming, but I love the Oceansize drummer - he stands out in a lot of the tracks with some clever stuff. 'Unfamiliar' is ace as an example (although the video edit on youtube cuts short some of the best drumming bits, such as the instrumental bit starting at 2:50 in the vid)...

Edit: the full version without video does it better justice!:

Not really "aggressive" music but good all the same from some 90s shoegaze

Blind Mr. Jones
great intro, just follow the drums in your head - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHuiD_qCO94
simple but effective, lovely little trinkle of drums around 3:15 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRSN66xM788

Ride drummer was great

Cure have their moments

Hanging Garden - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEH5jReEkSk
Closedown - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4K70rsoJkk
It's Over - some challenging drumming here! Studio version better but this live version shows how frantic it is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXCMkz4qZP0

MC5 by Stone Temple Pilots is a cracking song around a quite interesting drum riff.

or check out Warrior Soul (esp first 3 albums - Last Decade, Dead century; Drugs, God & the New Republic; or Salutations from the Ghetto Nation).
