So, most of the major (and minor) releases are out now - what's your favourite album of 2010?

Having listened to over a hundred new albums this year, frankly, I don't think anything of merit was released at all. My vote is that 2010 was a distinctly non-vintage year.

But in the vain hope that I missed an absolute corker... over to you.

For me the suprise was Mumford & Sons, brilliant, even better than KOL, who i was really looking forward to.

A really mixed year, with releases from some of my favourite bands...

The latest Oceansize album has really grown on me. Didn't like it at all on the day of release.
The Interpol album was alright.
The Filter one is quite good - heavier than their past couple of releases.
Stone Temple Pilots was a bit of a disappointment.
65 Days of Static album has some great tracks.
The recent Deerhunter one is another grower.

Overall, the Foals album is my favourite of the year. I think I've listened to it a couple of times a week since the day it was released.

Mechanize by Fear Factory.

Bit of an odd choice, but it's my favourite album of the year.

Arcade Fire - Suburbs was the band back on form.
Foals was good, but I still prefer their predecessor.

My favourites are still 2009 - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Noah and the Whale.

Still a few bands that i want to hear before the end of the year, will say that the Linkin Park album suprised me, i though i would hate it, but no i actually like it.

The XX

(you have to be in "the mood" and it helps to have something with good base response to play it on (or you miss half the album ;-) but a very simple album but i can't stop playing it

(close second for me would be White light by GA (live versions of album tracks)

Plan B - Defamation Of Strickland Banks has to be up there..

Same with Eminem - Recovery. Such a good turn around from his previous terrible album.

I cant think of anything that has really impressed me this year, particularly compared with last year. Usually I need to read other peoples choices so I can remember what I've heard/what is new this year. Definitely nothing for me mentioned here yet though.

At the moment I will go for Agalloch's 'Marrow of the Spirit'.

Arcade Fire - Suburbs. For me, it was easily the best album of the year.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Cherry Ghost - Beneath This Burning Shore Line
The National - High Violet

All good, but nothing really better than an 8/10, as the OP says, not a vintage year.

Trying to put together my best of 2010 compilation, will post a track listing soon in another thread.

think the only new album i bought this year was Grinderman's new album but i do want to give the new national and audreys albums a listen. oh i did get the new she and him and that was a bit of a let down after their great debut.
