Many of you may be thinking "Who?". However, I guarantee that you will be familiar with his work.

Maurice was principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1977 until he retired in 2007. Originally a brass bander (principal cornet of the world famous Black Dyke Mills band), he brought his huge unique sound to the classical world.

Asked for by name by many film composers, he became well known for his playing on many soundtracks, including all six Star Wars films (his first role as Principal Trumpet in the LSO), Superman: The Movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gangs of New York, Johnny English, Jurassic Park, Reign of Fire, a solo in Mr. Holland’s Opus, Philadelphia, Batman, the Alien movies, Frankenstein, Gladiator, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, We Were Soldiers and many more.

He will be sorely missed.

(Mods, please don't move to Music, I think it deserves a wider audience as anybody who has watched a film in the last 30 years will be familiar with his playing!)
