Anyone know what that whistling thing is that they use in the Homebase ads? I've heard it elsewhere too. Quite liked it at first but now find it slightly irritating!

Ah, Peter, Bjorn and John. You will never hear another thing from them because rumour has it that licensing this song for adverts has netted them comfortably into 7 figures...

Money for old rope. Nice work if you fall into it!!!

I also heard of the guy who penned the Weakest Link tune gets £70 a pop every time it's played on a UK episode and even more for US etc episodes and less for Eastern European/Asian/Third World countries.

He was last heard of counting his money.

I had a Jack Russell a couple of years back and that whistling used to drive him nuts!

It didn't do much for me either....

<<is what I do for a living. Fees are calculated by the assumed amount of people watching. So if I write something for the BBC and it gets picked up and runs coast to coast in the USA, I'll make many more times the amount from the repeats.

As you say: money/old rope. Monstrously difficult to get into though, and you are only as good as your last bit of work, so NO job security at all.

With a 7-figure sum in the bank I don't think I'd worry about job security!

Seriously though, if I had written something I considered suitable for an advert/theme music/backround music/jingle etc, how would I get it out there?

If you are really confident about the quality of your work then either try and get people like http://www.air-edel.co.uk/ to represent you, or try and get a production music company like http://www.kpm.co.uk/ to commission an album (or part album).

Be warned though, for every composer out there doing this, there are another 99 standing in line!

Good luck.
